Very beautiful restaurant. Feels very French. Though prepare for a long line. The servers serve you quickly and even make a bit of a show when they hand you you're food. It may be hard to hear with all the noise.
I got the escargot and the sauce was very good! The Brie would have been nice if it was melted a bit but still good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jennifer D.Glen Cove, États-Unis105104892 janv. 2024
Well don't go for the food. Go for the great atmosphere, wonderful old building, elderly waiters writing your order on the paper table cloth. Go for the prices - plentiful food, quite inexpensive. Our friends who live in France part time love this place. Come often. But are not foodies. At all.

I don't get it, I really don't. My French friend wanted to bring me here but the line was too long, so I came back myself another night while she was out of town. It was starting to fill up fast around 6pm and I figured I'd best prepare for an awesome meal. Couldn't have been more wrong. I was seated at a 4 person table, as a solo diner. There was a couple already there, and I ended up next to them and across from another solo traveler. Not at a community table made for different parties mind you, at a normal 4 person table you'd normally only see 1 party at. It was uncomfortable to say the least. Then my waiter came to take my order approximately 30 seconds after I was seated. I told him I'd need some time to look over the menu. He came back 1 minute later (this is not an exaggeration by the way, I had just gotten through the wine list only), and would not accept me telling him I needed more time still, he just wouldn't leave. I asked for his recommendation and he rudely told me he doesn't know what I eat, so I said I eat meat or anything else, and he pointed to something on the menu and took it before I could see what I was getting. I asked what wine he'd recommend and he told me my only option was the small bottle of white for 1 person, I guess I'd be screwed if I had wanted a different kind and was okay ordering a full bottle? The food came about 3 minutes later. It was beef on a skewer with some kind of oily green sauce, and French fries. The meat was incredibly dry and chewy and the sauce tasteless. The fries had no flavor. When he asked if I wanted dessert and I said no, he looked shocked. I didn't want to risk trying something and having it be awful too, and waste a good dessert moment in Paris. I walked to get an eclair down the street.
I left about 15 minutes after I had arrived, it was clear they wanted to rush people through and get them out asap. With the line, I kind of get it. But it made for an awful dining experience. You couldn't pay me to come back here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Zinnia M.Old Toronto, Toronto, Canada01310 janv. 2024
Cheapest place you'll find, food is alright but we really went just for the interior decor! It can be extremely busy but we didn't have to wait to get seated, no reservations needed. Definitely recommending to go at least once!

I heard there was supposed to be a long line here, so we visited relatively early in the evening (maybe 6 pm?) and there was no wait. The food was generally good and pretty affordable. I got snails, sausage, and steak. This was my first time trying snails and they're not bad. I'm not sure if I would get it again though. The taste is unique and a slight bit too salty for me. This was also my first time trying this kind of sausage, and it was fine. I'm not sure I would try it again. The steak was ok, but definitely helped by the sauce. The sausage and steak both came with fries which were also good, but nothing special.
The service was quite efficient even as the restaurant filled up. There were no problems with speaking English at all. In terms of value, I think this is a great place to go. The quality isn't the best, but I think is well above average for the price.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Jen L.Los Angeles, États-Unis522135415 nov. 2022
Why do people not like this place? It's not a tourist trap as some of the reviewers claim, ordinary French people eat here. It is reminiscent of a diner because it has a simple menu and the food comes out fast, and is accessible to a lot of people. Is the food top tier quality? Definitely not but that is reflected in their affordable prices.
We enjoyed our meal, yes we were seated next to a random French teenage couple but it also meant we didn't have to wait as long.
The snails were delicious and the beef bourginon with pasta was tasty, my steak with fries could have been better but it still hit the spot. You can order an appetizer, drink, main dish, and dessert without hurting your wallet and it'll probably be fewer than 30 euros. It's not going to be the best meal you have in Paris but it's certainly better than a bad bistro.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - CT M.Sacramento, États-Unis04919 sept. 2023
Service was excellent! Our waiter was very attentive and quick. This was our first stop to eat in Paris and enjoyed the food at the classic Bouillon Chartier. Don't get your hopes up for the food, it was average. It's just fast and something to try when you are in Paris. Escargot was okay, (I've had better at other restaurants in Paris). I did enjoy the veal. I wish I could remake the sauce back at home. Remember to arrive early to bypass the line outside. We went right before open just to avoid the crowd.

The food was delicious!
Price was very affordable.
Best bang for your buck in Paris.
We went around 11pm, no wait!
Our server was amazing.
Ordered escargots for the first time. Very deliciously buttery and garlicky. It was served with bread on the side. Perfect combo.
Ordered the highly recommended steak and frites with peppercorn sauce.
Fries were overcooked and steak was not the best cut but the flavor was there + very filling. You get what you pay for!
Still deserves 5 starsHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - S L.Tampines, Singapour, Singapour02922 sept. 2023
Le Bouillon Chartier is located at 7 Rue du Faubourg Montmarte, near the Grands Boulevards metro station in Paris, France. With a price range of 10-18 Euros, per person, this establishment offers affordable dining options in the heart of Paris. You can learn more about them on their website at https://www.bouillon-chartier.com/en/montparnasse/la-carte-montparnasse/
The first dish I would like to highlight is their Roast Free Range Chicken served with Fresh Fries. The chicken is beautifully roasted with taut crispy browned skin, and bursting with juicy flavours. The accompanying fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They would have been perfect if they were served hotter. The chicken was prepared in a skilful manner without being over-seasoned.
Another standout dish at Le Buillon Chartier is the Confit of Duck with Shot apples. The duck is cooked to fork-tender perfection with a classic, rich confit preparation. The shot apples provide a delightful balance of crisp tartness and brightness, balancing the unctuous richness of the duck whose skin has been rendered down to condensed gamey deliciousness.
For those seeking a classic French comfort dish, the Bouef Bourguignon Coquillettes is a must-try. The tender beef shanks, slow-cooked in a rich wine sauce, literally melts in your mouth. The addition of coquilettes, small pasta shells, adds a delightful texture to the dish, with the al dente pasta providing a good contrast to the almost caramel-like sauce.
For dessert, I had the Prunes with Vanilla ice cream. It was exactly what I expected, a simple traditional sweet dish of wrinkly tender preserved sweet prunes topped with a goopy scoop of mildly-sweet ice cream. After a generous meal shared among 3 friends, this petite dessert was the perfect way to wrap up the meal.
The service at Le Bouillon Chartier is commendable considering it was packed, with at least 50 people in line for a shared table at dinner time. The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgable about the menu and forthcoming about portion size. My waiter, Jesse ( badge #21) was humorous and even though he spoke mainly French, we managed to communicate with lots of gesticulations and google-translate. Food arrived very quickly and in a reasonable sequence which allowed for conversation and good company.
The restaurant has been around since 1903, and is located in a charming original old building with high ornate carved pillars and arches. It was lively and bustling with mainly French locals and curious tourists. The Parisian decor definitely added to its ambience and charm.
Overall, I rated it 4 stars as it felt like a very authentic Parisian experience with delicious, down-to-earth French food that with prices that will not break the bank.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sang L.Manhattan, États-Unis0220 août 2023
Definitely not up to the hype
During our meal, the pigs snout was pretty good, but when our mains came out, they were not as good as I thought they would be the prices were affordable put the meat was tough and fatty. I think the restaurant was decent, but I would not go back when I tried to call over one waiter. I didn't finish my sentence, but he just left, which was kind of weird. Overall the restaurant was just not up to the hype. I hope this helps those who are thinking of going.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
