What happened? Was there a change of management? Used to come here all the time at midnight and now their hours are 8am-3pm? Whaaaa?

      A:

Used to come here all the time as a late night spot for dinner but most of all a late night slice of pie! Hours changed from 8-3 and now I rarely go at all. And the prices have gotten pretty steep for a pretty basic breakfast.

My wife and I are long time brite spot diners, more than my check ins show. I've probably dined here over 70 times. The service is great, wait staff is friendly, food is great diner food, location is sweet.

The one thing that saddens me is the owner, or I think she's the owner. She sees us everytime and never says hi. But she's super friendly with everyone else! What gives?? She's also really hard on the staff who work really hard already. I refuse to say hi first because I'm the customer. I will not give in. One day I will catch her gaze and she will say, 'hi, how are you fine people doing today? How is everything?' But today is not that day. I will post a review of brite spot every visit and keep you all posted of my developments with this mysterious, elusive owner.

I've been coming to Brite Spot for over 7 years but over time the service has declined. The prices on the menu have raised a lot in the last year. Unfortunately, the experience has become more of a hassle than a nice sit down local spot. However this is still an Echo Park staple.

They used to be open till late at night but recently they changed their hours from 8am-3pm along with a raise in their prices, which is disappointing since it's still a diner with diner quality food.

I've been in the Brite Spot twice, both times to hang out with my friend Ben L., who's the kind of regular customer I've only ever seen in sitcoms, coming in for multiple meals in any given week. We got lunch here a few weeks ago, and our server knew his order. I was impressed.

The Brite Spot is the sort of place that makes sense as a regular hangout, a charming but unpretentious diner with a comfortable old school vibe. We got a cozy booth and had a nice, leisurely catch-up lunch. Service was friendly, of course, and very attentive.

The food was good, too. I had a shrimp po boy, a massive open faced sandwich with grilled shrimp, Old Bay, lettuce, tomato, and spicy mayo, with a side of tater tots. There was so much shrimp, it was like a whole Chinese stir-fry, complete with the coating of mayonnaise (mmm, honey walnut shrimp). The tater tots were crispy and satisfying. I ate about 2/3 of this plate and felt very full. Probably could've stretched it to two meals and been just fine.

I like the Brite Spot. It's a cheerful place, great for an easy, relaxing lunch. I can see how one might get attached.

I used to come to this place because it was quiet simple and old-school I could think eat and do a little work on my computer now when I come in here it smells like bleach the music is blasting at 1000 dB and you can't even talk to anybody and of course it's playing that every day pathetic plastic hip-hop garbage not even real hip-hop generic corporate hip-hop and of course their espresso machine is broke the last time I was here the waiter was dirty I was walking around with a dirty rag hanging out of his pocket he wasn't friendly nor did he engage and I still left him a good tip this place basically now sucks with a capital S don't waste your time or your money even though it's cheap you get what you pay for.

Had breakfast here today for the first time - everything was excellent! Service, food, decor, parking, food, cleanliness, food, etc!

We went around 9:30 am and today is a Monday, so were easily able to park in the back lot off of Park Ave, and get a great table near the window.

We had two servers taking care of our table and both were great: attentive, prompt, friendly.

We ordered the hangover scramble, the chicken pesto sandwich and the California eggs benedict. All of the food was fresh, portions were huge, and everything looked and tasted great.

I had the benedict and the eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise was lemony and a little zingy, the muffin was toasted well, and all the veggies were fresh. It really was one of the most delicious benny's I've ever had! You have a choice of potato too and I chose tator tots, which were perfect to soak up the excess yolk and sauce.

For the three of us the bill was $62 with tax and tip - we all drank hot tea as our beverage, plus the entrees but no extras. For the area, quality and experience I thought this was a great value. Would definitely recommend, and would go back again!

So yea, there's no need to come back here again- is the summary of going to this restaurant.

Hipsterville Echo Park does diner = you get micro greens on your sunny side up (like are they organic too?), plus you only get 1 piece of toast instead of the usual 2 because, carbs?

Though there's outdoor sitting, and tater tots, +1 star. And the inside is maybe kinda cute until you look down at the overpriced menu.

Absolutely horrible customer service. It's the only breakfast place in echo park with egg white options and a somewhat healthy menu option, which is the only reason it gets two stars.

Let me review what happened today. I called to place an order for pickup and some rough sounding guy answered and before I could even place my order he asked for my credit card number. No thanks lol.

So then we arrived and immediately told them we knew what we wanted when we sat down. They weren't busy at all there were 2 other people there. The waiter said let me take your drink orders first, we said just water, so he wastes more time getting the water the same person comes back again and now asks us what we want to order lol.

Then he's putting the order in and I asked how long it will take because we are here on lunch break, and this guy in a gray shirt kind of fit with a bald head with a rough sounding voice I think it was the same guy on the phone earlier randomly asking for our credit card, interrupts my conversation with our server when I ask how long it will take he said "it will take as long as it takes".

I just can't believe people like this are allowed to work in the customer service industry he should be far far away from customers washing dishes or throwing out the trash. Or maybe just not allowed to work there at all. And because of this, I'm never coming back again, their food wasn't that good anyway and this just broke the camels back.

I appear before you, devastated, that I lived a mile away from and drove past Brite Spot nearly every day for 10 months before walking through its doors. After indulging in a perfect Christmas Eve Day brunch here, I resolve here to come back as often as possible before I move to Pasadena in February.

The restaurant was relatively calm when we arrived around 9:30, but was practically packed to the gills by the time we left, almost 11am. Service was a bit slow as they seemed understaffed, understandable the day before Christmas. Still, we received our food quickly and were checked on numerous times throughout the course of our meal.

I started with the soup of the day, which was a zucchini cream. I've never heard of this but decided to take a chance on it, and it was definitely the most deliciously thing I ordered--a hearty, cheesy thick soup, light on vegetable flavor, to be honest, but specked with enough cayenne to give it a noticeable kick and thoroughly satisfying. I wonder how often they have this available, because I intensely hope that this isn't the last time I'll eat it.

My side of biscuits and gravy arrived with 2 golden biscuits dredged in enough gravy to cover their large oval platter. While the biscuits were a letdown--decidedly un-tender and un-flaky--the gravy was a thick and comforting gutbomb: full of sausage bits, well-seasoned, a bit too lukewarm and so, so fulfilling in its creaminess. Next time, I'll pass on the biscuits and eat the gravy with some toast instead.

The yogurt was just fine, and the jam was more than decent, though the tiny portion they served me in a paper condiment cup made me a little sad. My meal was anchored by a gigantic slice of banana cream pie, most of which I had to pack up and take with me. This is a pie with a lot going on. A very tasty crust is layered with caramel, then bananas, banana pudding, a mountain of whipped topping, and chocolate and caramel drizzle on top. There was a gentleman behind the counter whose main responsibility seemed to be cutting and plating this enormous beauties. HIs job makes the world a more beautiful place--thank you, sir.

My husband had the breakfast quesadilla, which came in a huge portion, and called it delicious. It seemed to make up for his expresso, which was served super bitter. He usually drinks all his caffeine black, but had to add an entire sugar packet into the tiny cup to make it palatable. The regular coffee he ordered later on was just fine.

We walked the mile home with several boxes of leftovers and happy tummies. I'm so glad to have this as a neighborhood spot and plan to take full advantage of it as long as I call this neighborhood mine.

Where do I begin? First, the least bad--our waiter was a nice kid, and the patio was pleasant. We went on Mother's Day, 11:45 am, a date and time when any self-respecting brunch venue should be well-stocked. Stella Artois is prominently featured on table cards advertising Happy Hour. I wanted something light, so I requested a Stella. The waiter left and returned ten minutes later. "Sorry, we're out of Stella." We then placed our food order--a club sandwich with fries for my partner and an egg on English muffin with spinach, bacon, and hollandaise for me.
When the food arrived about 15 minutes later, I was dismayed to find that my egg (straight up but undercooked and mucousy) was sitting on a greasy hamburger bun instead of an English muffin with mayo instead of hollandaise. The mound of spinach on the other side of the bun was ice cold. In the meantime, the place had gotten very busy, and our waiter disappeared inside. When he finally emerged, I asked him if I could get a real English muffin. "Sorry, we're out of those," he said. Had I known that, I certainly wouldn't have ordered the dish. He did heat up the spinach for me, though.
The rancid oil--A side of hash browns came with my meal. Unfortunately, they were inedible, because they had been cooked in oil well past its prime. The French fries were slightly more edible, especially when dipped in ketchup, but cooked in the same oil. I was able to eat the cooked part of my egg, the bacon, and the reheated spinach. My partner took pity on me and gave me a quarter of his club sandwich, which was undersalted but not terrible. It was only after I separated it to salt the turkey that I saw the hair. At that point I stopped eating. Our waiter was kind enough to comp us for the club sandwich. He took the section with the offending hair back to the kitchen to show the chef.
Management of the Brite Spot, maybe you can continue to fill seats without improving your game, but I implore you to fix these problems. You have an excellent location and a charming venue with a reputation worth preserving. Please don't drive it into the ground.
