Définitivement une bonne adresse !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4 sept. 2014
Not far from where St Martin canal emerges from underground, and closer to St Denis than central Paris is the cozy Chinese run Vietnamese restaurant of Chez Yu. My GF and I were craving the fares of SE Asia and needed a fix. Since we knew there was a healthy Vietnamese population in and around Paris we instinctively knew that good Vietnamese was to be had in the city of lights.
After calling several four-star plus rated establishments featured on Yelp--of course--we sadly came unto the realization that the nouveau French folks like the Vietnamese Parisians, either by birth or osmosis, have a habit of not hanging around Paris on Labor Day weekend; they escape to either Southern France or waterside elsewhere getting their beach on.
At first we hesitated to try Chez Yu because of the few ratings they had received. But a quick analysis of the tiny establishment changed our minds and we're glad that we did. First, the kitchen and prep area is open and view-able from the street. Second, the place was kept very clean. Third, the proprietors--I assume Chez Yu herself or an equally competent emissary--worked before spectators like yours truly, in the open kitchen.
We ordered beef Pho, pork and beef Bahn Mi sandwiches, respectively, and a couple of Vietnamese ice coffees. For apps we selected the beef skewers. Indeed we were hungry. Since I enjoy food with some heat, we asked for and were given a side of finely sliced chili peppers that were simultaneously hot and tasty (like my diner guest). Ordering was a bit tough since I barely speak French or an Asian language. But they were patient and kind enough to bear with my limited linguistic skills.
The Bahn Mi sandwiches on French baguettes were the highlight of our diner. I had the pork sandwich and my GF enjoyed the beef. Our entire order was excellent and I strongly suggest you swing by Chez Yu's if you happen to be in Paris and craving some fare from the former French colony in the far east.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Russell P.Newark, États-Unis0520 sept. 2019
Just got to Paris, staying at the Loft hostel. This little shop is right down the street. Their Double Special Yu sandwich is absolutely amazing. It hit all the right spots and gave me the feels. I'll definitely be back here for some pho!

Great service, seated quickly and the staff spoke English. The place is small so go elsewhere for large groups. The food is classic Vietnamese fare, no real surprises. Good bun and banh mi and quickly made!

This was my first experience with pho and it was a good one. The place is very tiny and cramped so be warned if you want to eat pho here but the soup itself is really good.
The broth is nice and rich in flavor, the noodles were good (I just wish they were a little thicker), and the amount of meat was good too. The size of the bowl was good but no where as good as le Kok in the 13th.
I think this place is ok but if you want really good pho in Paris just go to le Kok, it cheaper and way better.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Marji V.Baltimore County, États-Unis02426 mai 2019
Really great soups, more than pho. Great menu! Fresh, clean, very flavorful. I had spicy coconut soup with veggies and tofu. My friend has very good beef salad and a spring roll. Extremely friendly guy behind the counter, popular to-go place also.

Being from san francisco area I've had plenty of different Pho and this one really impressed me. Its a small cozy space with good service. They have a menu in english which was helpful. The seafood spicy soup was delicious and perfectly spiced. It was a great meal on this cold Paris evening. Definitely recommend if you are in the area of Belleville!

Chez Yu is a great place. Yes, it's small. Yes, it's cozy. Yes, it's worth it. All their soups and pho are delicious. There are plenty of vegetarian options that are just as tasty and copious as their carnivore counterparts. This is hands down my favorite place to eat in Paris. I know that it'll be fast, fresh, and delicious every time.

Walking down rue de belleville, their menu for the bahn mi caught my eye at only 3€! We went inside and just ordered one to share between the two of us. It had the typical stuff with thinly slices pork, pickled veggies and mayo. I actually wasnt too impressed with this because it didnt have that much flavor. The pork was cut too thinly and i feel like there wasnt that much in it, the bread was cold ( i like when they crisp it a little) and they didnt have any other meat or pate to give it flavor. I guess for 3€ its a good snack and you cant really complain!

Kinda like a fast food place, but tasty. Very small place, but great for a quick lunch. Friendly staff. Wouldn't come here if you need to impress someone.
