A favourite spot for me and my family, Danish Camp is an excellent alternative location in Bedford.
It has quite a unique and interesting setting, being a wooden cabin out by the River Great Ouse. It features an indoor dining area, a partially covered balcony area and a sloped lawn featuring picnic benches, a bar and a bouncy castle for the kids. The one issue with this setup is that the indoor area is quite small, featuring around 8-10 tables. This means during cold or wet weather your seating options are severely limited meaning this place is generally a no-go in the winter/autumn months unless you can guarantee a dry and warm seat.
However every time I have visited Danish Camp the food has been excellent. Their signature item is the 'Wedge' which is a sandwich featuring two big wedge shaped slices of bread. These come with a variety of fillings and include breakfast variations too. The bacon, sausage and egg wedge makes for a quality breakfast. Unfortunately they appear to have discontinued my favourite lunch item the Prawn wedge but other excellent items such as the Southern Fried Chicken wrap more than make up for this.
Orders have to be placed at the counter/bar indoors and as a result queues can build up during moderately busy hours. Service is decent albeit occasionally slow when people build up.
Overall, despite some small issues, Danish Camp is an excellent location to eat with the family if you pick your time right.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Membre Qype (goasky…)Sandy, Royaume-Uni13673016 nov. 2008
Danish Camp is a restaurant on the river, it is also on the cycle Route 51 in between Sandy and Bedford. Cycle hire is available. They also have a bouncy castle in the summer, an ice cream hut and a cage full of chipmunks whcih the children love to watch. The food is very nice and the ambiance wonderful BUT the service is extremely slow so don't come here for a quick bite to eat.

Located in Willington approximately 3 miles from the town centre. This restaurant is ideal for the family in the summertime. It has great food for a sit down meal or you can stop off at their cafe for a quick drink. It has bikes for hire with a trial for riding along the river.

The Danish Camp is a pleasant wooden structure located directly beside the River Ouse. The building itself is nothing to write home about, but the balcony overlooking the river and the open riverside area alongside are the real attractions in the warmer months.
The food itself is fair, but the prices are rather high. The staff also have a philosophy eschewing the notion of fast food. As nice as this probably sounds to the blue rinse brigade that frequent the Camp during the week, the fact is that the service is so ridiculously slow as to make you think twice about bothering to order anything in the first place.
If a 45 minute wait for the three people in front of you to be served sounds like a good idea in your book, then do try the milkshake that's made with ice cream.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Membre Qype (Fairvi…)Bedford, Royaume-Uni024 déc. 2012
Being local to the Danish Camp has meant that we use it quite often and are never dissappointed with the food or the welcome. We feel so lucky to have a lovely place to sit by the river, right on our doorstep. It is family friendly and there is always something going on. We have sometimes booked the river boat for family birthdays and have always been well looked after. Thank you Gail & Roy!

We took a group of 3 & 4 year old children to the Danish Camp as part of their learning about 'Living and Growing'. We had a fantastic time. The children were shown around The Moat - time was taken to show them the animals and talk to the children, who were very excited! The children were listened to and after the tour, it was into the cabin for ice-creams! (Which I must say I thought was very good value). Again, the staff took their time to serve each child individually as the children learnt to handle money and change! Safety and hygiene was excellent (obviously the children were accompanied all the time). The Danish Camp is a superb facility, nicely tucked away but definitely worth finding out about. Now the children want to go on the boat!!! Thank you to all involved!

The location and setting are superb especially at this time of the year. The food is excellent. But it's expensive, you have to queue for a long time to place your order, and when you eventually get to the front of the queue you wait half an hour or more for a sandwhich. The staff seem to take their time and don,t look bothered.

nice location, lovely for a stop-off for bike trails / walking but food is expensive for what it is - I nearly got my head bitten off yesterday for asking for a bit more bread to supplement my (£8.50!) ploughman's :-( next time will stick with the coffee and cakes and avoid the kitchen!
