Whilst not an exceptional place, we considered the food to be good pub grub and the pub has a pretty good atmosphere (quite lively and family friendly)... the staff were mostly friendly and we enjoyed our evening here on a family dinner out.

Would return again if in the area...

Let's start with the positives: the location is nice, away from the crowds, but still within close distance to the town's centre.

And now for the negatives (brace yourself): the service was mediocre at best, there were several times that our orders for drinks didn't come through, and on another occassion we saw our drinks being carried around half the restaurant because the staff didn't know anymore for which table they were. We also had to wait quite long for our food.

Ordering drinks itself was already an undertaking, because the staff didn't know all the beers they had on draft, and despite the decent wine menu, they only had 3 white wines which could be ordered by the glass at that moment.

The food itself is the regular English pubfood you can expect from a chain (vintageinn.co.uk), nothing spectacular.

Of course, with all reviews it's a snapshot of the moment, maybe we were just served by someone for whom it was the first day on the job, and maybe they were understaffed and understocked because of easter, but for us it was a less than pleasurefull experience.

Perfect for when you want something other than the usual chain-restaurant fare without having to venture too far out of the town centre. Cosy and snug in winter with nooks, crannies and beams aplenty but yet surprisingly cosmopolitan and continental in summer with the outside dining area. The Beagle is one of those places where you need to leave an extra 15 minutes for narrowing down your choice from an extensive menu ... I'm pretty sure it's the LAW that you try the sharing platter with the baked brie for starters!

A pub up to normal pub standard - average food, good beer and the minimum number of staff. The upside is that they do have plenty of parking and the food (when you finally get it) is not to bad. I really like the fish cakes and their salads are not to bad either. They operate the very popular but sometimes confusing spoon system when ordering food. The main problem with this is when food are ready and who knows where the spoon who it belongs to are located. Summed up its off the beaten track but average food.

I have just returned from a terrible meal at the beagle nr sproughton, Ipswich. To start we had a bread dipping starter, unfortuantely the bread was stale, we then waited for quite some time for our mains. my boyfriend ordered a traditional beef roast, and I ordered the sirloin steak. unfortunately for the roast, the carrots were hardly cooked, and the yorkshires were not home made, but frozen ones that came out a bit tough, for the price of £10 it was a terrible effort. for the steak, at £14 the steak was tough and chewy and seriously burnt on the outside and still bleeding on the inside when i had asked for it to be cooked so that no blood was coming out of it, they forgot the onion rings which came with the meal, when pointed out the waitress did go and get me some and came back with 2 very small onion rings, again onces that have come out of a freezer rather than the ones claimed to have been home made with beer batter. some of the chips were cooked to a crisp, and i left half the steak, i can name at least 5 restaurants that can provide far superior food for a similar price tag, and we didn't bother with the desert as we simply did not want to part any further cash to the place. an extremely disappointing experience for the price tag, slow service, and for long periods of time no staff about at all! we would definately never go back, which is a shame as this is a place we have gone to regularly over a number of years, and i do not remember ever having such poor food, at such expence and feeling so ripped off topped with poor service.
