In my ongoing bento tasting series I bring you the first world-cuisine bento bakery/restaurant in Paris (and beyond, perhaps...)! This new address opened up a few months ago but I only just tried it the other day after committing myself body and soul to the quest to taste every bento in town.
So, the concept here is quite original: four bento boxes are available each day, each one representative of a different type of cuisine (Indian, North African, Asian, French...) and composed of three mini appetizers, one main, one starch and three mini desserts! It's a big-ass bento, but one of the most affordable ones in the city (8.50E).
I tried the Moroccan bento which had three little savory dips, a delicious chicken tagine served with couscous and three, count them three, desserts. Everything was delish, especially the desserts which despite trying to parcel out throughout the afternoon, I scarfed done one after the other they were so good.
The only improvements to be made here are the packaging and the wait. I waited 10 minutes to have my bento heated, then they mixed up my order and had to do it again. Plus the packaging is very environmentally unfriendly, a big plastic plate with compartments but no lid,so they have to put a giant aluminum foil sheet on top of it. They should definitely invest in something more compost friendly since you feel like you're killing the world while eating your bento, which isn't such a nice feeling. -

Je n'ai pas dut tout été emballée par ce que j'y ai mangé mais je dois avouer que le concept est intéressant et très honorable. En fait, derrière le service et la cuisine, se profile tout un programme de réinsertion. Toutes les équipes participent donc à ce programme, et c'est assez efficace. On sent bien l'esprit jovial de l'endroit, même si les serveuses sont parfois un peu brusques et pas très regardantes en ce qui concerne les "bonnes manières", mais ça n'est jamais déplacé.
Mon bento ne m'a pas transportée. C'était le bento végétarien. C'est très copieux pour le prix, mais j'ai trouvé qu'il y avait une vibe un peu cantine, aussi bien à l'ambiance du lieu que sur mon plateau. Justement: le plateau, les couverts en métal, les plats réchauffés, j'ai trouvé qu'il y avait un petit arrière goût de self.
