The Trenton Sandwich - Kropsua
have your bacon and eggs for lunch or dinner. three farm-fresh eggs, creswick farm bacon, greens, tomato, and aioli on your choice of bread.
A beautiful place to behold. The food, the atmosphere, the people. It's about as close to going to Grandma's house as it gets. Test your food impulse control waiting in the bakery if it's busy, all things on display look delicious. Try anything on the menu as there is not a bad option, but my personal favorite is the Trenton breakfast sandwich. Cinnamon coffee is a must as well.
An underwhelming disappointment. Came for healthy veg options, which we got (along with high prices, but that was expected). We also got no warning of the hour wait on a Monday, and major garlic-sploitation in everything. The Mother Earth salad had so much garlic with lemon it tasted effervescent, or perhaps it was beginning to spoil. Every sandwich came on thick-sliced Challah, which is ridiculous. My Trenton was so thick it was inedible without deconstruction, which impeded enjoyment. Front of house staff was well-trained, friendly and accommodating, but couldn't make up for over-rated food.
According to the menu, Marie was a really messy cook. That's cute and all, but what's not cute is food so messy that you get over-garlicked aioli all over your face at every bite because your sandwich is 7-in tall and all the ingredients slip and slide all over the place.
This place never, ever disappoints. Went back again last weekend. I try to experience something different on the menu each time because I'm in love with their Reuben and appetizers. We came there for breakfast, but had to wait (I don't mind waiting when the food is worth it:) so we ended up in the Lunch menu. No worries I ordered the "Trenton" OMG. It was incredible. It was a BLT with Egg and Aioli. Holy cow it was crazy delicious. Ever since I watched that movie "Spanglish" I've been wanting to try a sandwich like that! Soooooo good. Took home their chocolate pudding and hummingbird cake for letter. I think what I like best about this restaurant is that every single ingredient is fresh! Including the Pickles. They are homemade. Great. Great. Great!
Sorry, but I feel mislead...
(1) Y'ALL,THIS IS NOT HEALTH FOOD! I do not understand why people are walking around acting like this place is healthy, because it is very very very much NOT. Just because there are vegetarian options does not mean something is healthy. This place had some good options, but it seemed like everything was loaded up with enough carbs to last a normal sized human for an entire weekend.
(2) Additionally, I felt that the menu was a little misleading. I'd prefer that they be a little more specific on the menu so that people know what they're getting. For example: I ordered something under the "Omelettes, Eggs, Etc" section which was described as "The Trenton: Local eggs, Creswick Farm bacon, greens, tomato, aioli, toasted whole wheat bread." I expected it to come as eggs with lots of yummies inside, and toasted bread on the side which I could omit if I desired. But, when it arrived, it was a big ass sandwich. Where in that description is this called a sandwich? Give a girl some notice, for crying out loud.
Disclaimer: I am not vegetarian. I am not vegan. I follow a mostly paleo diet, I love me some meat, and I am not a big bread/toast/carboloading fan. That should explain my rating. If you love you some carbs, this place is your jam.
Best breakfast in gr!! The Trenton sandwich is easily the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had! It's always crowded but they deal with the crowd by passing out samples and letting you pre order your coffee.
Lunch is very good too and their deli food to go is amazing for picnics.
When my husband ordered the egg sandwich (I think it's the "Trenton" on the menu) I was dumbfounded. Like, with all this goodness on the menu, you're ordering an EGG SANDWICH?
I was wrong. If Marie Catrib's can make an EGG SANDWICH that good -- and oh, was it good -- you know you're in the right place.
Everything else we tried was just as tasty. But the fact that they could do so much with something so simple is what really blew me away. Challah, aioli, good eggs, bacon, a tomato that actually tasted like a tomato, and fresh greens. Simply swell.
The deli is excellent to boot, and Marie herself is a delight if you get to meet her (when we were there, she was cooking in the area behind the deli, working away with the rest of the great, young, energetic staff).
We went twice while in GR -- on Saturday morning, if you get there much past 8:20 expect to wait. It fills fast.
(p.s. It's always a good sign when a joint has Sriracha -- they'll bring you a bottle if you ask. Yum!)
Marie Catrib's is a cozy cafe with incredibly friendly staff and a unique menu. The menu contains lots of items that are gluten free or vegan, but don't let that scare you away if you're a normal carnivore like me. The food is so delicious you can't even tell the difference.
The decor of the restaurant would make any Austinite feel right at home. The restaurant has colorful signs and artwork inside and has a bit of a hipster feel.
I ordered the Trenton with eggs done over easy. The gooey-ness of the eggs plus the crispy bacon and perfectly toasted challah bread make this sandwich one of my new all-time favorites. The garlic aioli dressing adds extra flavor that sets this sandwich apart from any other joe-shmoe egg sandwich. I would give 5 stars just for the sandwich.
My friend got the special - a meatball sub plus lentil soup - proclaimed it was the best meatball sub he'd ever had, before realizing the sandwich had no meat in it. the vegan Larry David meatball sub is made with lentils and orzo rice with lots of tomato seasoning and other yummy goodness that makes it hard to tell that there's no meat in the sandwich.
For a Friday afternoon, the restaurant was surprisingly packed. The only reason I didn't give Marie Catrib's 5 stars was because the service prior to being seated was really slow. At one point there were 4-5 empty tables that hadn't been bussed and a long line of people waiting to be seated. There didn't seem to be a huge rush to get people seated. Once we were seated though, the wait staff was super friendly and attentive.
How is it that I always forget how good the food at Marie Catrib's is! I just went there and was reminded how big their portions are and how amazingly delightful their food is! You won't regret it so check 'em out! What is good you ask? Well...lemme tell ya... The Adult Grilled Cheese, Sweet Potato and Quinoa Burger, and The Trenton is delicious! Great place for brunch but if you go on Saturday, expect a wait because it is just that good! The food is always fresh and you can not go wrong. Here is another reason why I like them - they use locally grown products.
oh PS/ not open on Sundays
