Ground Beef & Lamb Slowly Cooked On Rotisserie, Seasoned With Herbs & Spices, Wrapped In Pita Bread With Onions, Tomatoes, And Tzatziki Sauce
Favorite place for Greek food hands down! As others have said, you MUST try the Greek chow mein (half order is plenty big). I recommend it with gyro meat while my husband prefers the pork. Can't go wrong with a gyro or Greek salad either. The service can be a little slow but it's worth it!

I drove 40 miles to get here from Tampa for dinner. That's right. Is Greek food worth that much of a drive. Probably not but when locals swear to a place like this as Guy Fieri swears to EVERY restaurant from the Triple D show, then how could I NOT jump into my mini van and head straight to the heart of the Florida Greek community to try this killer legit Greek food?
I was warned that their portions were outrageously large in portion size. Yay! Old school! Thus as a favor to all of my friends at the table, I ordered the Poikilia dinner which had three kinds of meat(gyro, sausage, and soutzouki) plus pita bread and tzatziki on the side. I kind of knew that I was ordering something large since it was $26 but when it came out, wow!!! It was a beautiful stacked plate of meat with feta cheese and tomatoes and onions on the bottom. Perfect for my gluten free preferences, I ate and shared more than half of the meat and saved the rest for the next day's breakfast.
This restaurant seemed family owned as we got attentive service all night long with water and tea refills. We tipped 20% either because we were happy or due to our collective food comas.
I just hope Guy Fieri's show doesn't end up coming here.
Cute little Greek place with a very friendly staff.
I had a gyro pita, and it was very tasty. The gyro meat was well seasoned. The tzatziki was delightfully garlicky. It was excellent.
Why only 4 stars? According to our waitress (who worked there 20+ years), the avgolemono soup has a cream base. My understanding is that avgolemono's creaminess comes from the slow cooked rice breaking down as well as the beaten egg. There shouldn't be a milk product in the soup!
Been looking for decent Greek food for some time now since we moved to the area five years ago. Saw the good reviews for this place and gave it a try Friday night. Not disappointed. The Greek chow main was very good and would have it again. Had half an order which was more than enough. Wife ordered gyro platter and brought half of it home. Will definitely go back and would confidently recommend to friends.
Food was very good, service was dreadful.
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm and were promptly seated by a waitress. Although she had menus in her hand, she did not leave us one.
A few moments later, another waitress came by and asked us if we were ready to order. We explained we didn't have menus and she said she'd go get us some. Off she wandered.
A few minutes after that, a male waiter came by and asked us if we'd like to order. We mentioned that we didn't have menus but that someone was by and said she'd bring us some. When we looked around to find her, she was in the servers area, pouring someone some drinks. The male waiter went and got them and returned immediately. He took our drink order and when he returned, took our food order.
We both had the Gyros meal....it was very good but a tad on the oily side. Tzatziki is made with sour cream, not yogurt, but it was excellent and very garlicky.
Would I return.....food was decent, service pretty disappointing, so most likely not.
The Gyro Chow Mein here is one of the best things I've ever eaten. All of the flavors blend together perfectly. The gyro meat is almost like a meatloaf texture, very soft. The peppers and onions melt in your mouth and the rice is cooked to perfection. The red sauce and hint of feta give it that little extra sweet and tangy flavor. The portions are huge, so get a half portion! Staff are super friendly and attentive! We will be back!
Let's cut to the chase, shall we?
Order the Greek Chow Mein dish. It's unique, filling, re-heats well, and let's face it: it's Heaven in the guise of food.
The lethal combination: sauteed peppers & onions, shredded feta cheese, & rice pilaf topped with your choice of meat. I highly-suggest the gyro meat.. and when/if ordering, don't make a fool of yourself & pronounce the 'g' in gyro (it's silent), your welcome, and bon appétit!
PS - wear loose clothing.. they serve up the Greek Chow Mein in gut-busting portions.
A lot of people recommend Mr Souvalaki. It was ok. My server was really nice. I went with their famous gyro chow mien. It was ok. I should have gone with a traditional gyro. My meal came with Italian bread instead of Greek pita bread. It was hot in here also. I doubt I'll come back.
Very nice. For years I've heard recommendations about this place, but didn't bother because its just outside the tourist area and only open until nine pm.
But we were very pleasantly surprised. Its clean and the staff is pleasant. A lot of old people were dining there, which is a good sign for value.
I had dolmades, which were good and reasonably fresh-tasting, and my companion had a chicken souvlaki, which I was told was very good. I had something called "Greek chow mein", which had a choice of full serving or half serving. Like an idiot, I ordered the full serving, which was a mountain of food. That is good, I guess if you like to eat leftovers for days on end. There is at least four full dinner plates of food provided in a "full serving", enough to gag a starving hippopotamus. However, even if you throw most of it away, it was still absolutely delicious. It is nicely sautéed peppers and onions in a nice red sauce over properly done rice, with very tasty gyro meat loaf and some feta cheese. I really liked it a lot, and I recommend it. It's like something someone's Greek granny would serve you. If they use the same gyro meat for their gyro, I'm sure that would be good too.
I would go back there, it's among the better Greek restaurants in Tarpon Springs.
Just eaten in this place third time this holiday , food is great ! Tasty , fresh , portions r generous , and ingredients used are good quality and super fresh ! Just had chicken souvlaki for dinner and my husband had gyro wrap . And we finished meal with house made baklava ! Amazing Greek food!
Ehhhhhhhh. I had high hopes for this place, but it just wasn't fantastic. It was good, but not as good as I had hoped.
Pros: the gyros and saganaki (flaming cheese) were plentiful and delicious and I liked how they put chickpeas in the Greek salad. My friend enjoyed her chicken souvlaki.
Cons: our waitress was out of it. Her timing was way off, bringing out our food one at a time and out of order; and the Greek salad was pretty bland (the potato salad was missing something)
Overall, i would probably return, but there are other Greek places that I would recommend before Mr. Souvlaki
I've been coming here for years and believe it's the best Greek food in Tampa Bay. Aside from the wonderful Greek Salad, which can feed an army, their pickled octopus is divine. My mom always gets the gyro and has never been let down. And everything goes great with Greek beer! Their tag line is,"Once a week, go Greek!"
BEST EVER! My family has been going here for decades! Ive sneaked around a bit and "tried" others but ALWAYS come back here to the best gyro known to man. Just the idea, makes me tell hubby to prepare for lunch here tomorrow. Mouth watering thoughts...thanks! Will update w photos.
Have you ever been to a restaurant far from home that is SO GOOD you find yourself considering a residential relocation? If not, you probably haven't been to Mr. Souvlaki yet.
I've been going to Mr. Souvlaki since it was on Dodecanese Blvd and I lived in Clearwater, probably 1991-1992. As crazy as it sounds, that's about 25 years, and I guess that means I'm getting old.
I live near Nashville now, and only get to Florida once a year to visit family in Marco island. That's about 3 hours from Mr. Souvlaki, but I make the trek up to have a gyro and Greek salad. It's that good. Now I'm back in Tennessee and dreaming of Tarpon Springs. If you're in the area, please visit Mr. Souvlaki. The food is amazing, and the staff has always been friendly and attentive. I couldn't give a higher recommendation,
Mr Souvlaki is kind of my Sponge Docks area step sister. Generally we only go there if other options are too busy. Overall it's an okay place as far as food and service. The chow mein dish is the most noteworthy. However, if you're looking for a gyro the best is down Dodecanese Blvd at The Platka as they are the benchmark as far as we are concerned (and we grew up in this area going to high school here). So Mr Souvlaki is usually a decent in n out joint and is much easier to park at being on Alt19 as opposed to the actual docks area so that can be a plus.
Service is pretty slow (or at least kind of melts down if the place is busy), but the food is pretty good. The chicken souvlaki is tender and flavorful. Stay away from the gyro sandwich, though. It's a gutbomb and a half. I was uncomfortably full for the rest of the day and had horrendous garlic/onion breath.

Yelp guided us to give this a try rather than our normal Greek food destinations on the sponge docks, and we were happy we changed it up.
They offered bread and butter to start, which is always nice.
My fiancee ordered their house specialty, the Greek chow mein with gyro meat. He only ordered the half portion but still couldn't finish. I tried a few bites myself and it was awesome.
I had the gyro and its one of the best I've had. The meat was definitely the best I've ever had and the pita were excellent. I've had better tzatziki sauce though.
The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star is there was a misunderstanding regarding an order of dolmades. We ordered them and asked how to pronounce the word, but she didn't realize we were actually ordering them and never brought them to us. She did offer to pack an order for us to go, but we were travelling and declined.
We will definitely come back here whenever we're in the Tarpon Springs area.
