Wow! This was our last breakfast stop in Key West before the end of our trip and it was delicious! Both the view of the ocean and food was awesome. The prices were very reasonable I thought as well for the quality of food and great view. I had the crab and shrimp omelet with a side of breakfast potatoes-wonderful. There was a good amount of crab and shrimp and both were yummy. The hollandaise sauce and paprika that was on top went very well with it. I've included a picture of our table view and the omelet. Make sure to check out Southernmost Beach Café when vacationing in KW.I'll be returning.
I actually tried Cafe Iberico about a year ago and I'm finally writing about my visit, which was great! My boyfriend and I have tried many Spanish tapas restaurants and Iberico wins for best red sangria, it is just amazing. It is pretty strong but has an amazing taste so you can't tell. I would recommend getting a cab so you can fully enjoy it! They also have the best tapas dish that I have ever tasted- Pulpo A La Plancha, which is grilled octopus with potatoes and olive oil. The potatoes and octopus are amazing together! I cannot wait to go back and have that dish again and try a few more as well.
I cannot say enough good things about Maple Tree Inn. I just recently went here for the first time, but I will definitely be returning in the near future. I loved the jalapeno cornbread muffins they give you first, yum! They have an awesome and extensive craft beer list and my boyfriend enjoyed trying a new beer. As for me, I definitely enjoyed my Creole Voodoo Zombie drink and would recommend. Now on to the most important part-the FOOD! My boyfriend had the special for the night which was the boiled crawfish with corn on the cob and potatoes, all served right in the pot at the table which was fun. I'm not sure if they have this particular dish available every night but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. I chose the Hickory Buttered BBQ Shrimp for my entree and it was seriously to die for. This was definitely the best shrimp dish I've ever had and one of the very best dishes I've had period. It is served with jalapeno cheddar cheese grits that were amazing with the shrimp. The portion was a good size also for both the grits and shrimp. There were many things on the menu that I wanted to try, so we will just have to make a return trip soon! I've included a picture of the boiled crawfish.
My boyfriend and I recently tried Emilio's in Hillside and loved it. We are big fans of Spanish tapas and we really enjoyed the tapas we had here. The dining room was cute and nice for date night. I liked that there was a nice mural on one wall depicting a kitchen, all of the Spanish ingredients, and of course Chef Emilio! We had a pitcher of red sangria that was very good and a little strong which I appreciate. The tapas we had are as follows:
Queso de Cabra Al Horno- Delicious goat cheese and tomato sauce served with garlic bread, definitely recommend.
Calamares Con Ajo Y Limon- Grilled calamari with garlic, lemon, and olive oil- very good.
Croquetas de Pollo- Chicken croquettes with tomato basil sauce-I was very impressed with this one, really good flavor( could eat this everyday it was so good)
Lomo de Cerdo Al Ajillo- pork tenderloin medallions served with spanish potatoes, cucumber, and garlic sauce- saved the best for last, this was our favorite and was so DELICIOUS! The combination of the pork, potato, cucumber and seasoning was very unique and tasty.
You will love Emilio's if you're a Spanish tapas fan. We can't wait to return!
This is an excellent weekend getaway spot and also quite romantic. I loved the European feel to the hotel and the amazing balcony views overlooking the Fox River. The bathrooms are really nice with a jacuzzi, separate shower, and lush bathrobes and slippers. The room itself is pretty big and has a fireplace inside. I also enjoyed the breakfast the next morning, which included several different kinds of cheese and lots of fruit(a nod to the European feel again.)
I'm returning for a 2nd stay at the Herrington this June and can't wait. You feel like you are staying at a little French chateau when you stay here. Check it out, I think you will love it also.
I've included a picture of the balcony view from our room.
I would highly recommend Urban Mutt, as they really know what pet owners want at this store! I first discovered the store in June of 2011 during the La Grange Pet Parade. I had my dog with me for the parade and afterwards we stopped in the store. I found the cutest dog cupcakes, as well as colorful rawhides in the shape of lollipops, ice cream cones, & candy. They also have a ton of adorable cookies for dogs.
My FAVORITE thing, however, has to be the personalized birthday CAKES they can make for your dog. I have had 2 cakes made by them and they both turned out really well. When you call to order the cake, the sales person will ask you what flavor(s) you would like, type of frosting, the colors, what you want written on the cake, as well as if you would like any additional toppings. The best part is that all ingredients are safe for your dog. I've had friends comment on how cute the cakes turned out after seeing pictures. The cakes can be made in 3 different sizes, all in the shape of a bone.I believe there is one larger sized cake that can be made in the shape of a fire hydrant. I chose the medium size and it works well if you have 2 or more dogs sharing.
I also must mention that the staff has always been very helpful and kind. They even have a wall filled with hundreds of pictures of the dogs that have visited the store, which is a really nice touch!
Thank you Urban Mutt for helping to make my boys' birthdays special!
