Shaun's is one of those rare finds with great service, great food, and an excellent setting. I had the porkchop which is supposed to be a house specialty -- it was fabulous. Tender, sweet, and filling. We'll be coming back to try brunch on the weekends since we've yet to find a great brunch place in Atlanta besides the flying biscuit.
Madden's is hands down the best restaurant in the area. I've eaten there for breakfast five or six times and dinner three or four. I usually try to go on the weekends when Peter Madden [the chef] makes his specials. That's one of the things that I really appreciate about this place -- not only is the food the best in the area, and better than many more expensive places in Houston or Austin, Madden's e-mail newsletter is a treat to look forward to as he fills you in on what he has decided to make that's off the menu that weekend. Breakfast is only served on Saturdays and I highly recommend making your weekend by starting out a quiet morning at Maddens.
As far as specifics go my favorite appetizer is the steak medallions: I actually cut them with a fork.
I'm usually there on a weekend and get an entree that is off the menu, but I haven't had anything that dissapoints. The chocolate/chile rubbed steak is excellent, although now I'm starting to sound like a steak fiend. Their entree selection covers the norms with Madden's own twists [such as the steak mentioned above] -- game birds, seafood, and steak as per the modern American cuisine restaurant typically offers.
Something random and worth noting: this place also has the best coffee in College Station/Bryan and so that definitely makes the breakfast on Saturdays even better.
$$ for breakfast/lunch
$$$ if you really plan to enjoy dinner
Me and my fiance went to Pasta Da Pulcinella while we were in Atlanta looking for a place to live. Some friends we are staying with suggested that we try it while we were in town, so we did. We didn't really feel like having a full course meal so we just stopped by for some dessert and coffee. The dessert gets five stars for the cheescake. It was exceptional. The tiramisu was good, but not particularly noteworthy over other restaurants. The coffee was delicious with a subtle underflavor of chocolate. Our server was nice, the location is good. The atmosphere was quiet without feeling empty.
5 Stars for dessert and coffee: we'll be coming back again to try the rest.
