The food is great! It's Korean street food with an American twist!
Rapokki: ramen + dukk (rice cake). This dish is spicy! Especially towards the end of you don't mix it well! But I enjoyed it so much! Comes with 3 pieces of braised pork belly, and a runny soft boiled egg! So yum. Downside is that it's very pricy ($15), and the size of a traditional instant ramen pot. You know, those pots that every Korean household has for cooking ramyun.
Boyfriend really enjoyed the Kalbi burger. Comes with a sunny side up egg!
Also ordered the Animal Fries!! It's similar to the in n out animal style fries in the sense that it has that special yellow sauce, and pickles. But this time, in the Seoul Sausage Animal Fries, it has diced Korean pickles and jalapeños that were soaked in Korean soy sauce. The pickles, and jalapeños made everything so much better! Vegetarian friendly!
So why the 2 stars? Service! It was so slow. Our waitress didn't check up on us to see if we needed anything... Nor did she ask if we wanted the check after the hostess took away our empty plates. So we just sat there with an empty table. We had to ask the hostess for our check, which came back 10 minutes later. And it took another 10 minutes for someone to actually grab my credit card. This was after two of the waitresses walked by our tables. Maybe the restaurant was too dark? She didn't see that I was waiting for my check to be closed out? The hostess later came to grab and close out our bill.
Not only was the service slow, I saw a bunch of what seems like staff members off duty (no uniform worn) drinking and having a fun time. That didn't bother me, that they were having a great time, but one of the males kept going in and out from the kitchen to the bar area. Also feeding one of the waiters beers and other various alcoholic drinks. I don't know about you, but I think it's not okay for staff members on duty to drink while on the clock... But that's just me. Maybe the standards at Seoul Sausage is different.
Anyways: important info is that there is retail parking in the back, which they do validate for. But even with validation, it's super duper expensive!! We stayed about an hour and with validation, we still had to pay $2!!
I wouldn't come back here if I had the choice. Parking is expensive, food is expensive, and service sucks. T__T
First time trying Korean Shaved Ice and it was okay, but not one of my favorites. I think it's because I prefer Taiwanese Milk Snow because the snow has flavor.
I went to Hooshik when it was fairly new, so it was a little disorganized. The guy behind the counter was trying to do way too many things at once. He was trying to take my order but his attention quickly went elsewhere, leaving me standing there waiting to order for about 10 minutes until a girl takes my order.
The ice was pretty pricey ($7 for ice and syrup with some fruit). The syrup was mainly on the top only, so once you get to the middle, you will get plain snow if you don't spread your syrup evenly.
I wouldn't come back. It's just not for me.
A fan of their Uni Bowls that comes in a Uni Shell!! (on the secret menu only!) Which is super filling! I love that the Uni was fresh! You can tell Uni is fresh because it doesn't taste fishy.
Caution: you may find a few of the spikes from the shell in your bowl. I bit in a few while eating.
Their Lunch special choices are pretty good and reasonable price!
This restaurant is korean/japanese fusion, so you'll get some ban chan and miso soup with your meals.
Service was great and food was delicious!
Street parking only!
Order with the item number on the piece of paper, then press the service button on the utensil box.
We did just that, however, i don't think all the waitresses got that memo because we saw multiple staff members walk by our tables even after we clicked the button. It wasn't until we flagged them down that they finally took our order sheet.
Garlic Naan with Curry - Very yummy. I just wished they brought this out first instead of last because the Garlic Naan was yummy while it was warm, but tasted super hard when it was cooled down 10 minutes later.
Laksa with Fishcake and Spicy Coconut Curry - very hearty and yummy. I enjoyed the balance of the coconut milk and the spicy chili oil. Very filling with big portions!
Hainan Chicken Rice - Comes with chicken rice and soup on the side. Chicken itself has bones so be careful when ordering this for the kiddos! It comes on a cool plate with 3 dipping sauces and side of steamed bean sprouts! I enjoyed this dish, however, I wouldn't order it again as it was only mediocre. I'd rather try many of the other malay items on the menu.
Super big fan of this place! And I'm so glad Monterey Park has a Malaysian restaurant now! It's a gem indeed!
Special Ordered their letter doughnuts. The doughnuts are super cute, however, they're just that. The doughnuts itself were mediocre because they were super hard. Maybe it was super tough to eat because they made them earlier in the morning? (I picked them up at 4:45pm).
I've had their regular displayed doughnuts and they are pretty good and quite soft. My favorite is the purple cinnamon toast crunch!
Good luck looking for parking. It sucks, like everywhere else in Ktown. I suggest coming with a friend and having a friend drop you off while you go grab the goodies.
Little tea oasis hidden on San Gabriel Blvd next to the Shell Gas Station.
Parking on the streets.
They have both outdoor and indoor seating. Their menu is typical of what you would expect from other boba shops in the area. I really enjoyed the Hot Grapefruit Ginger Tea. It's soothing and sweet, great for those who are feeling sick. Ginger Tea is also great for digestion or if you're having stomach cramps!
Of course I had to order the milk tea in their ice bucket. Ordered the Almond Milk Tea with boba. I really love the idea of the milk tea presented in a ice bucket. That way, you can sip the milk tea slowly without having the milk tea diluted with melted ice. The boba was pretty hard to chew, but has the perfect sweetness to it. I prefer my boba softer, so it wasn't really for me.
oh! And of course you know the drill- CASH ONLY.
Oh gosh, where do I start?? Simply one of the coolest, most fun dive bars I've ever been to!
Super friendly, funny, and helpful! Bartender came to our tables to take our order, and bring out our food and drinks, (our waitress doesn't arrive until about 5).
Our waitress is super helpful and quick with our food and drinks. Always came back to check up on us to see if we wanted to order anything else.
The DJ for karaoke was just amazing. He had a large selection of music to choose from! Something for everyone, literally! If you wanted to sing a song that wasn't available in the book, he would make sure he got it for you! I often caught him singing as backup singer for those solo singers! I had so much fun watching him, and it's so awesome that he's having fun while working as the DJ as well!
Happy Hour here is amazing! Some appetizers are half off, plus wine and beer are $3 until 7pm. My bill came out to about 10 for 2 drinks and an appetizer. Hollah for cheap date spots!
I had trouble finding this place because the sign was super small. But I just tell friends that it's right across the street from The Vegan Joint (yes that's the name).
I had so much fun here last night that I plan on coming here for all occasions!
Came here for lunch with 3 other friends on a Saturday, and had no problem finding parking or a table. This little shop is small, but I think most do grab and go when they come here.
Everything on their menu looks awesome. They have everything from Breakfast, lunch and dinner! And all served all day.
Boyfriend got the Breakfast burrito, which is big enough to share btw! Comes with eggs, cheddar, tater tots, and your choice of bacon or sausage. We smothered it with their house made Sriracha sauce for an extra kick! (also available for purchase if you must have it in your household.)
I got the super exclusive (only available until Oct 31st 2015) Pumpkin Spiced Fried Chicken Sandwich. It's a Fried Chicken patty with Pumpkin Spiced Aioli, Wild Arugula, Tomatoes, Provolone Cheese, in a DK Donut of Cinnamon Crumb as the burger bun! All the different sweet/salty/peppery tastes mesh together really well. I enjoyed it a lot! I recommend you try it before it's gone!
They have a large assortment of cold pressed bottled juices too! My favorite is the Balance green juice which has Apple, Spinach, Cucumber, Kale, Celery, Romaine, Parsley, Lemon, Lime, and Ginger. It looks scary at first, but its not too green tasting and it has a good sour and sweet taste from the lemon and the apple! With a small kick from the ginger! I can drink this all day!
They have a private parking lot, so parking was not a problem for me.
Food came out super quick despite them having a super huge catering order at the same time.
Def a spot I would recommend friends and families to go to for good food and yummy juices that won't break the bank!
Love this little kart for its convenient, quick, and friendly service!
They serve Taiwanese snacks here! I use to drive by all the time thinking it was a taco stand!
I ordered their Fried Turnip Cake ($3.5) and the Popcorn Chicken ($4). Ordered Both medium spicy. No tax, no extra change! Simple and easy!
When I came here at about 6pm, there were two other patrons waiting. I ordered, and my food was done in less than 10 minutes! I took it home to eat, but they also have some chairs laid out so you can enjoy your goodies in front of the stand.
Super yummy and flavorful popcorn chicken & turnip cake! I'm officially hooked on this little joint!
Downside is that I don't think they sell drinks. At least I didn't see any.
I can't wait to go back and try their BBQ corn and skewers!
