If you have 3 hours of free time and don't mind spending it waiting for a haircut, this is the place to be.
If you find yourself in an alley with 20 sad sacks staring at their phones with a glazed over look on their faces - you're in the right place.
Everyone comes out with more or less the same haircut. It's not a bad cut, I'm just not into spending half of my day off on getting a haircut. This is a barber shop, not a salon..
Free shot of whiskey is nice, but you have to ask for it.
No appointments are taken, first come first serve, put your name on the chalkboard and then go run some errands, get some food, write a novel, etc.
Pro Tip- use Postmates.com to get your name on the board and then show up 20 mins before it's your turn. That'll cost you a few bucks but it's well worth it.
Their pan pizza is my favorite in Chicago.
The young ladies that answer their phone are my least favorite.
Lived in Chicago for 14 years and ordered from them for most of that. Pizza was consistently good and their attitude and phone manners were consistently terrible. They make it obvious that they don't want to talk to you and don't give a shit about what you want. They're so popular and busy it probably doesn't actually hurt them very much, but yeah.. be advised. Rudest bunch of dicks to ever pick up a telephone.
This review is mainly regarding their level of customer service. These folks are great. Super helpful, patient, cooperative. They go out of their way to make your experience top-notch. Yes their stuff is pricey but it's also undeniably well-built and they do have some pretty incredible warranties. You should definitely come check them out. It's a cool shop with a great staff.
Rise Above did a great job with our order (Oakland Bike Polo).
The shirts were finished in a timely manner and the print quality is damn good. Communication and response times were pretty good, with email seeming to be the preferred method of contact (or visit their storefront during business hours). Pricing was reasonable and I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to a friend. Our club is stoked - Thanks! :)
I buy their Morning Glory muffins from the Dill Pickle co-op. Best. Muffins. Ever.
I have no idea what's in them (other than magic), but they fuel me up like nothing I've ever experienced. They're great for runners/cyclists.
They taste unbelievably good and pair well with coffee. Get some.
Only been here once, but it was impressive enough for me to write a review. This place can give Smoque BBQ a run for their money, and that's no small statement. Had the pulled pork, the meaty beans, and the truffled mac. All were fantastic. Favorite sauce was the chipotle one. I will definitely be back again. Nice job guys.
TIP: the taster sized portion is plenty of meat (but no bread), in case you don't think you can handle the full size sandwich.
Fast, friendly, affordable. That's all you really need to know. Most of their products aren't overpriced (unlike SOME bike shops in town), and their labor is fast and affordable. They do good work, and they're knowledgable and friendly. They don't make you feel inferior/stupid, and they don't make you feel like it's a bother for them to help you. If they don't have what you need they can order it, and most stuff comes in real quick-like. Oh and they're involved in and give back to the local cyclist scene, and they do a lot of kickass custom builds. Nothing but good things to say. Shop here when you can. You won't be sorry you did.
My wife and I have been going here for years. We live in the neighborhood. We've always gone on Thursdays for their "famous" prix fixe menu deal - and I always assumed THAT was the reason they could never get their sh1t together. Because they were offering a good deal and were too busy to properly handle things. Nope. It turns out that they pretty much NEVER have their sh1t together.
The hosts are rude. They give tons of attitude when you show up for your reservation and you're waiting for your last person to arrive. They shove you out the door and basically tell you to beat it until you're a complete party.
Tonight is my 6th anniversary so my wife and I made 730pm reservations. We show up at 7:32pm according to my phone, and we're told it's going to be a 30 minute wait because they're "a bit backed up" and because "there's a large wedding party" there this evening. All of which has nothing to do with me or my wife. They took the 730pm reso for two, and failed to honor it. We stood around outside for 20 minutes sweating in the 90+ degree heat/humidity because the "bar" was packed. By the way, the bar area is tiny and only seats 3 people comfortably. We took our business elsewhere - luckily the night was salvaged.
The drink selection here is poor, the food is mediocre, the staff is rude, and the atmosphere is bland. It's overpriced, and underwhelming. They treat their customers poorly and don't know how to take/honor reservations.
Do yourself a favor and go someplace else. I will never dine here again. Ever. There are so many better options, even within a 1 mile radius. Don't waste your time or your money here.03/09/2011 Dear Jason,
We did not intend to ruin your anniversary. I am very sorry for that. I also apologize… En savoir plus
Extremely friendly/helpful staff. I've been coming here for years. 10 years to be exact. They have just about everything you need, and the prices are fair. Not much to say that hasn't already been said, but these guys have saved my ass dozens of times. It's great to have them so close to home. Please shop here when you can - shop local.
Top notch BBQ here. You know from the smell outside the joint that you're in for a SERIOUS treat. Friendly as they come too. A+
The ribs, beef brisket, baked beans (sweet cinnamon goodness!!), and hot links were the best of the best, but nearly everything we had was delicious. The deserts are all very good too - peach and cherry cobbler were fantastic and the banana bread pudding was out of this world. And I don't even LIKE banana bread pudding! (at least I THOUGHT i didn't).
You can't go wrong with this spot. Not much room to dine in, but get it to go and have a FEASTival. Mmmmmmmmmmm
