We were really hoping for a good new restaurant in the neighborhood but this place really fell short (in our opinion). We ordered take out for lunch on a Saturday so I can't speak to dine-in...
1) Food was greasy, dripping (burrito and vegetarian tacos), soaked
2) No take-out containers, food was on plates covered with foil, stacked on top of each other. Smashed burrito
3) Steak in burrito was bland, and again, greasy
4) Guacamole was very tasty, tortilla chips were good
5) Burrito came with French fries?! We didn't order them
6) Refried beans were greasy and had an aftertaste
Maybe dine in is better, maybe dinner is better. Try it for yourself.
Went there for lunch on a Friday. The place is really small (6 tables and the bar area) so you may have to sit at the bar if you go during the lunch or dinner hours. We ordered a variety of sushi (dragon maki, veg tempura, oak park maki, tuna) and all was fresh and delicious. Server was a bit frazzled as the restaurant was full but overall we didn't have to wait long for our food. I would really like to see this place expand so we aren't hesitant to come in fear that we won't get a table. I hear it's pretty open at 3P on the weekends. Overall would recommend for small groups (2 - 4), food was really good.
We never visited their old location so I can only speak to the new restaurant on La Grange Ave. The decor was nice, lighting was low and the booth was great for my husband as it helped us to feel a bit secluded and could hear each other well (even over a busy restaurant).
Here's what I liked:
Agnes was great. Very knowledgeable and friendly, she's a pro. We were warmly greeted when we walked in. It helped set the stage for a great overall experience
Food was very tasty but please note, when they say it's spicy...they're not kidding! If they tell you to give them a level of spice you're comfortable with, stick with 4 or 5 out of 10. Otherwise you'll be sweating.
Love how they take a soup like lobster bisque and add Indian spices to make it their own. I had the veg stir-fry, also very good. Wish they had a sampler platter where you could have smaller bites of a few different entrees as there were a few that sounded good. Ice cream (pistachio cream) was out of this world, honestly the best I ever had
Had a pineapple martini and it was good, wish they had a drink menu or suggested pairings
I would recommend this place. It was pretty busy on a Saturday night so probably not the best place for little kids but good for friends or date night. We'd go back again.
We tried this restaurant a couple weeks ago and were very pleased. The food was perfectly spiced and tangy, especially the shrimp. I had the shrimp pad thai and my kids had the chicken quesadillas. I was told the chicken was just as delicious as the shrimp. I would give this place a try, you probably passed it a few times without noticing but it's worth checking out. I would give it 5 stars but we were miss charged for a couple of things. Make sure you check the prices and menu when they're ringing you up.
There are a lot of bakeries in our neighborhood (Garfield Ridge) but nothing compares to the cakes you will get from The Cake Walk. The whipped cream is out of this world, tastes almost like ice cream. The cake layers are so fresh and delicious every time that it's worth the drive to get their cakes. I highly recommend this bakery for any occasion, you will not be disappointed.
We ordered a pizza and breadsticks to our hotel while we were recently in Galena. We had Happy Joe's last year and it was terrible so we were looking to upgrade. We were successful and were very happy with our pizza from Procento's. We had the Procento's Special (sausage, green peppers, mushroom and chopped tomatoes...thin crust). The ingredients were so fresh and the sauce was tasty. Tasted like it was cooked in a brick oven. The breadsticks were good but a bit overpriced. Would recommend a stop in or delivery if in the area.
I've only been here for the lunch buffet but I highly recommend this restaurant because of this. The food is great and they change out their menu quite regularly so you can try new things. There's quite a variety of food for a buffet so you can sample a lot of different flavors, textures and try new things including desserts. The restaurant is always clean, has a nice decor and friendly, attentive staff. I highly recommend this place.
Updated Review, 2/3: We've been ordering carry-out from El Patron quite a bit lately (once a week) and I must admit that the food has been great, orders have been 100% accurate and staff is very friendly. I think they really stepped up their game which is great because we need another good place in the neighborhood.
Ok, we reluctantly gave El Patron another chance...we heard it was under new management and I confirmed when I called to place our order. I told the woman the experience we had in the past, she apologized and when we got our food...get this...the order was correct! Everything was very tasty. We'll give it another shot in the near future. They're the worst, order is always wrong...and today, no avocados. Oh! They have a sign that says… En savoir plus
I had a great experience at this salon. The owner did my hair and did a great job on the cut and color. I've been getting all kinds of compliments. She took time to listen and make recommendations based on what I wanted and my hair type. She had a steady flow of clients yet kept things moving and was attentive to everyone. I like the service I received there, the owner was nice, professional and did a great job...I will be back again.
I can't say enough about Peek a Belly in Lockport. The place was so warm and inviting, the Receptionist was so nice and then when we went in with our tech, Cathy, the experience just got better. We're at 16 weeks and even though the baby wouldn't cooperate for the gender at first, Cathy tried a couple of techniques and they worked! The rooms are so inviting...soft lighting, couches, big TVs, even toys for our 4 year old. So much more calming than a hospital environment (although I know their ultrasounds serve a medical purpose). Such a bonding experience for our family. I highly recommend Peek A Belly for anyone who wants to check gender or just get a chance to spend some time looking at their little one.
