My husband and I are fans of Michael Taus and were eager to try this place. Let's say he's good with bar food, and ambience. The decor is beautiful but still bar-appropriate - all grays and blacks and very comfortable, plus lots of TVs. The service was friendly and efficient but not cloying. The bar has a nice wine list and my husband enjoyed his old-fashioned. The veggie burger was the best I've had in this city, and Mr. Man's grilled cheese with roasted-tomato soup was terrific, and looked so cute - the soup was in an earthenware disw with a little handle. The best part: My veggie burger came out as a turkey burger. Server realized his mistake even before he set it down. The veggie burger was out in about five minutes, then the chef (sous chef? chef de cuisine?) came out personally to apologize, and offered us a gratis brownie sundae. We tried to say no - servings were big enough to leave us stuffed - but he insisted. It was good - made with Blommer chocolate - and the size was just big enough to split. Loved Black Oak Tavern. We will return.

Judging from other reviews, we must have caught The Harding on its best night ever. I loved the food, loved the service - our server seemed to know the food and beer menu well and wasn't shy about sharing her opinions. It was early-ish on a Thursday so no wait - the place was loud, but that's to be expected at a bar and grill. My friend ordered the chicken and roasted-pear salad. I kept stealing her pears, they were so delicious. I got the portobello mushroom sandwich - more texture and attitude than most "this is the vegetarian option" options at bar-n-grills. My husband got the wedge salad; he's a bit of a wedge salad aficionado and said this one topped them all. Oh, can't forget the basket of sea salt and herb fries we ordered as an appetizer. I ate most of them. They're memorable. So, not sure what to say to the negative Yelpers. I had a great experience, can't wait to go back, and would recommend this place to anyone in the vicinity.

We visited here March 29, 2015, to celebrate my aunt's birthday. We had a great time and a great lunch and I heartily recommend it. The vibe is very northern California - wood tables, grey-blue walls, cool art, tin ceiling - and the menu has a "farm to table" feeling without being in your face about it. I ordered a vegetable ribollita - a formed vegetable hash - without the egg and with a side of toast. Right away the server said that there would be no charge for the toast. To me, that's great service. The house-made toast was so good that I splurged on a house-made sticky bun for dessert. Totally worth it. My family enjoyed their meals, too: BLT, eggs Benedict and a grilled cheese. Hearty, not intimidating portions; nice plating, good clean bold flavors, great service and that Mendocino vibe. I'd give this a must-try if you're in the Mount Carroll neighborhood.

Love these guys for several reasons: 1, they put in a new furnace for us on the coldest day of 2013 - neat, efficient, fast despite our cramped furnace room. 2. They were the only company to even consider replacing our AC unit, which is on the pitched roof of our house. 3. They came out this week to correct a problem with the furnace - not only corrected it, but cleaned the burners and changed the batteries in the thermostat, for no charge b/c our furnace was so recently installed. Again: Polite, fast, professional - I recommend them highly.

Forever wait  - in a nearly empty bar - for so-so drinks & overly salty food delivered by a server apparently lacking a personality. If all that sounds appealing, by all means go.

Amendment: We left before the check dropped. Apparently the server adjusted the check to make up for some of the slack service. So, there's that.

Mr. Man likes the clubby vibe of steakhouses and a well-made drink. I am a vegetarian. Turns out Keefers is pretty much the perfect date night place for us. We had our holiday dinner there last night and will definitely return. Service: Friendly but not cloying; polished, professional. Ambience: A nice lively buzz - very conversation friendly! Tabletop: Classic steakhouse with a twist in beautiful aquamarine water glasses and carafe. Food: So good. I had the lentil dish from the bistro menu - very well seasoned, very filling. I love a chef who puts thought and care into vegetables. The Mister had the Scottish salmon and an indulgent side of gratin potatoes. The side dish portion was perfect - not steroidal, as is the case with many other steakhouses, not miniscule. Perfect. The check drop was smooth and timely; the ancillary staff (host, coat check, etc) were fantastic. I also love the fact that this is an independently owned restaurant in what seems to be an increasing sea of chain steakhouses in the city.

I love this place and I love these guys. They know & love spices and are more than willing to impart that knowledge and share the love. I never feel like I'm being oversold or taken for a ride. And the variety is great - went today for cinnamon sticks and discovered they have not one but two kinds. This is "slow retail" - you have to wait as they weigh and measure the spices - and it makes it all the more fun. Like it's fun to wait while someone makes you an ice-cream sundae. All in all happy to have Pinch a 2.5-minute walk from the house. Sure makes cooking easier.

We used Ismael and his crew to refinish the hardwood floors in our townhouse. From initial contact to the finished product, everything was fantastic. Ismael responded to my email request for a quote promptly and came over the next day to give me a quote. He was honest about what the job would entail. His crews arrived promptly - they were neat and polite. The job took exactly as long as Ismael said it would. And the finished product? I can't believe it's the same flooring. They look brand spanking new. I heartily recommend this company to anyone who wants to have his or her hardwood floors redone.

Mr. Man and I love the "Chi Di" on Halsted, so were eager to visit the Logan Square outpost. I ran in to get a table while he parked and, alas, was told I couldn't be seated (and get a badly wanted beer) unless he was with me. So I sat glumly until he arrived. We got a nice table (decor and spacing are much more diner-friendly than the Halsted location) and fully enjoyed our beers, veggie burgers and sweet-potato fries. And, to me, the measure of a restaurant is not the problem you have, but the way the restaurant handles it. After we paid, we asked to talk to the manager about the customer-unfriendly seating policy. Maggie, the manager, explained it well, all while smiling and apologizing for the inconvenience, and gave us each a vegan treat to take home. I left happy and looking forward to our next visit. Thanks, Maggie.

Mr. Man and I were eager to try this new vegetarian place. What i think is that at this point, the heart and soul are firmly in place at Ground Control but the execution is not. We started with the tofu hot wings - nice & spicy - but our entrees (seitan salad for me, the seitan tacos for him) were mostly just salty. His side of mashed potatoes was really salty and unpleasantly lumpy. My salad was good for the first few bites but then it became uninteresting. The flavors lack nuance and aren't very well-developed or deep. The carrot cake (they were out of the mousse pie) was so sweet it set my teeth on edge. And I wasn't thrilled to pay $6 for approximately 3 ounces of wine. All that said, I do plan to visit again in a few months. Kitchens have off nights and maybe this was one of them.
