Family owned for more than 20 yrs., and that's about how long I've frequent this place. I enjoy the Mediterranean menu, however skip the burgers and other fast food items. The banana shake is creamy & flavorful, a must try!
Although I have not been back recently, I am sure the quality and friendly service have not been compromised.
An odd concept for the US, but I have fond childhood memories of when I lived in a country where food carts were abundant, convenient and some times tastier than restaurants. How nostalgic, even the aroma takes all my senses back...come here for more than delicately, sweet potatoes!
This is my neighborhood coffee joint, I've always loved the atmosphere and Japan town location. The owners are conscientious about environmental impact/footprint; community involvement and contribution. It's also a great place to have group meetings or just hang out.
The Coffee was not my favorite UNTIL they started using VERVE beans, and this made all the difference! My Churro latte was exceptionally smooth, with a hint of sweetness, and lingering cinnamon, just fantastic!
I've had other lattes, and it was just not as memorable...hence, I'm going to have to give credit to the barista -- whoever you are, you deserve praise for making an AWESOME Churro decaf latte for my Wed., 3/26 visit around 6:30 PM.
This review is long overdue since I've dined here many times, and recently had a wonderful experience w/my mom. I admire Owner & Executive Chef, Charles Phan's commitment & passion in preserving the traditional, Vietnamese cooking techniques and using authentic spices. Not to mention, no MSG since everything is prepared from scratch with local, fresh, and organic ingredients.
-Papaya Salad, it was fresh and perfectly seasoned with the right balance of sauce...loved the fried shallots, celery n tomatoes.
-Whole-Fried Branzino w/tamarind sauce (large enough portion for 2), crispy not too oily, and the balance of sweet n sour was perfect, not too overwhelming; the fish was very fresh and moist - delicious!
We were too full for dessert, but I did have the Wenzel dessert wine, it was wonderful, just a bit pricey at $15 for 1/2 a glass.
I've also had:
-Vegetarian & Non-Veg Crepe, these are my favorite, no words to describe - to die for...just be aware, crepes r not available for DINNER!
-Chicken Claypot, not too salty, ample ginger and organic chicken.
-Spicy Monterey Squid, similar to the Thai basil dish; squid was cooked perfectly n nice pineapple addition.
-CA yellowtail, this is my daughter's go-to dish; sashimi style w/lime & Thai basil, yum!
We could not get reservations, but was able to sit at the bar. Nice wine & cocktail selection, and although the service was not as attentive compared to table seating, whenever we had a request, there was no delay and always provided with a pleasant & friendly attitude.
This is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants that I'll drive to SF for; the crepe is worth it alone, and the location is great with a lot to see & taste.
Thanks for the great Vidal Sassoon hair cut Minh (Tommy)! My first experience having a VS cut, I love the shape and movement he creates; he listens, provides suggestions and makes sure you feel comfortable throughout the process. And all for a reasonable price, what more can one ask for.
