You just never know what you're going to stumble across some days. I saw this tiny little entrance to Baja Grille, opened the door, and found a cavernous, cool dining room that extended fifty feet inward. There was relaxing instrumental music playing. At the end there was a counter, and some tiny people. Those people got bigger as I drew nearer :-)

I'd already read a little bit about the food here -- everything is made fresh daily, they don't fry anything, they use no additives and no fillers. They offer a variety of dishes, including something new to me called "cabos" - hot, open-faced flour tortillas with different fillings, including steak, mahi mahi, shrimp, and a vegetarian with eggplant. They have kabobs from the grill, sandwiches, soups, salads, etc.

I opted for a "California Turkey Burger", which came with lettuce, tomato, guacamole and jalapeno slices. The turkey burger was nice and juicy, and of course the guac added more moisture and flavor. It was quite good, and I didn't feel like I was being too unhealthy.

Since they have no fried foods, the burger was served up with some roasted potatoes. These were good, but they had a lot of herbs on them, plus I didn't really need them, 'cause the burger was huge.

I was thrilled to find out they serve breakfast too! I'll be back for that, most definitely.

Baja Grille serves mostly subs, wraps and breakfast stuff (omelette, croissants, etc).

Steak & Cheese ($8.90) - Sirloin Steak Grilled w/ Green Pepper, Onions, Topped w/ Mozzarella Cheese on French Baguette & Side of Broasted Potato. This steak & cheese tastes pretty salty. It also tastes different than normal Steak & Cheese; they put their own unique sauce in there. It's interesting flavor but I still find it to be too salty.

Overall: It's not bad. The food's decent, portion's above average, the workers're nice & you get your food quick.

I had a delicious lunch. Chicken Cabos. Cooked with loving attention and full of subtle flavors. A very quiet spot for lunch in an neighborhood of grim choices.

Good, quiet place with an interesting assortment of food selections. I thought it would be packed on cinco de mayo, but the flow was right. The salad was tasty and affordable. And, it was easy to sit there a while. A good secret find.

I LOVE how they have unlimited sides of dressing. And, I love the salmon caesar salad sub for spinach.

The turkey burger here was decent, though it tasted like it came from the freezer (and not freshly made as the sign purports). As for the grilled chicken salad, it comes with generous portions of chicken and large chunks of veggies. I appreciate that they allow you to choose your own dressing (in these little plastic cups). Other than that, I didn't think it was anything special.

Baja Grille has a pretty large casual dining space and even an abandoned-looking bar out front. I venture to say (but I may be wrong) that Baja took over a restaurant space and didn't bother to knock out all the old relics (including several very decrepit looking booths).

The law firm that I work started using this place as a caterer over a year ago, several times each month. The delivery has always been dependable; the food is ALWAYS delicious; Mark and Nick are very interested in customer satisfaction; the restaurant and delivery people are great at what they do.

Bit of a secret this place. Some days it can be very busy and other days it can be quiet. It is a great relaxing place to go to & to enjoy your food in spaceous surroundings. No crowds, no lines, nice Latino music playing. Friendly laid back customer service.

I really like the food here - the burgers are homemade. The California burger is my #1 choice. It just tastes good - real meat. It comes with broasted potatoes which also taste good. The Turkey Burger is also very good with its guacamole included. The Cabos are interesting and different (for me) and the salads are pretty good too from what I hear. Excellent prices - this place has been here for some years I believe and the owners have no real interest in growing or in charging their customers more. I see regulars here every day in the same seats. I'm surprised at the negative reviews below - I come here at least once a week for 4 years and have never had a bad experience. Which is why I write even though I do not want the secret to get out.

The food quality was mediocre at best, the inside was dimly lit and vaguely depressing.

On the plus side, the portion size was solid and the service was quite fast, and there was plenty of dining space.

Overall the convenience factor just can't overcome lousy food and bad atmosphere.

Tried to go here with a girlfriend after walking around D.C. for a bit last night. It was closed. On a Tuesday. At like 7 pm. No signs or anything, just closed. Maybe they have something against Tuesdays?

I won't be dining here again. The food was sub par.

You would think that with the amount of competition in the area a place like this wouldn't survive.
