Really cute retro ice cream parlor in the Strip. Reasonably priced. Limited flavors, but old stand-bys and favorites...e.g., chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, butter peacan, cookie dough.

Klavon's used to be my favorite ice cream place in the city, however the last few times I've gone I have been completely disappointed. The most recent visit is most likely my final time. It no longer feels like a fun step back in time but rather a run down, over priced ice cream shop. The kids area wasn't set up, most of the lights were out, the custom sundaes were literally just a scoop of ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry (no toppings or sauces), the staff was inconvenienced by us being there and the smell of cleaner was so strong it was hard to taste your food. We got there around 5 because it was a birthday, ice cream for dinner treat, so it wasn't that they were ready to close.
Ice cream was average, so sad but it's not worth another trip.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 11962635522 août 2023
I love the old school charm and delicious flavors of this little shop. There are several ice cream flavors with three cone options, sundaes, milkshakes and create your own options. I love the creativity of their sundaes and the large portions. The downside is that it is expensive and because everything is obviously made to order, it can take awhile to get served. Single serve comes were $5 and my sundae was $10. Considering it is homemade and supporting a local business it wasn't too bad but it was a lot more than I was expecting to pay for ice cream.
Overall a fun experience for a special treat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dana P.Pittsburgh, États-Unis19518616 avr. 2023
The atmosphere is top notch. They are celebrating their one hundred year anniversary and have plenty of items throughout the shop that are a walk in time. Everything is handmade and delicious.
They even have a kid center to keep the kiddos entertained while you wait for your order. We love it here!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - 6 févr. 2023
Well, I haven't been to Klavons since January 2020, which is embarrassing, especially since I never left a review, but I'm trying to ensure I leave reviews for places I've been, even if it was a long time ago.
Klavons was doing an amazing deal--1920s prices. We got two sundaes for just .10! Incredible. While I don't remember exactly what we got, I do remember the ice cream was delicious and the experience was unforgettable.
On such a busy night, service was still great and friendly. Klavons has a great atmosphere! A really charming old timey feel. Very nostalgic.
I'm making a vow to go back to klavons next time I'm in the strip! Haha! Definitely give it a try! Tons of ice cream options, candy, etc.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Will D.Pittsburgh, États-Unis1821023 juil. 2023
I don't get it. OK, this place has been around forever, and people love it for this. And the inside looks like a blast from the past, with old timey apothecary type products in the back. But...
The ordering of the ice cream: you walk past the cash register to go to the middle of the room to look at a chalk board with the flavors on it. Oh, you want to see what the flavors look like? Get real. They're behind the counter, with no way to see them. You pick a flavor based on the name, and you wonder about the price, since there are no prices listed. Then you go back to the cash register by the front door. Hopefully nobody came in after you and went to pay first because they already knew what they wanted. I was warned that the credit card reader hasn't been working properly. I said I can do cash if that's easier. I was told that cash was not easier because they don't have much change. OK...?
I had exact change, and two kid size scoops were about $11.
The ice cream itself? Not good. Ice crystals throughout. I got the coffee flavor, and it was pretty bland. My wife got the peanut butter flavor, which was light enough on the peanut butter that it was essentially white. Her crystals were larger than mine, to the point where I could hear her crunching on them.
Let's face it. Ice cream is good. But I struggle to think of a place that I've been to in my life that had ice cream that was worse than this stuff. I've heard that this place pays their employees a living wage, which is great. And the venue is retro cute. But you pick an ice cream place based on the ice cream that they serve. And I can't imagine ever coming back here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rob P.Pittsburgh, États-Unis1147733 sept. 2023
Great ice cream poor service... no smiles, not communicative. Not really busy. This a common experience...

Absolutely adorable ice cream parlor with cute sundaes! The ice cream itself is only ok which was disappointing but it was a nice experience. Wouldn't come back, but would recommend trying at least once.

Klavon's was great! I had their triple scoop and I think the best was the dark chocolate. It had this mix of iciness and creaminess that I loved. The two people working there were really great and friendly. It's an old school ice cream place with tons of topping options too!
Highly recommend this place!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
