    More about me

      Prem's

We visited early in the evening to catch happy hour, no food, just drinks but I am inclined to come back and try the food.

Th decor is bright and interesting and it is surprisingly large inside, plenty of room for the large cocktail bar and restaurant with open kitchen (yes, you will see flames...often).

The staff didn't really have their heart in it, lots of little chatting groups of waitresses and waiters who seemed to be having a good time. Unfortunately they were largely oblivious of people who could have been asked if they wanted another cocktail or maybe upswell some bar snacks...oh well, maybe they are more focused when the place is busier.

Happy hour is an excellent deal, two cocktails for £7...but...they have to be the same cocktail, so you either queue them up or find a friend who likes the same as you. Or just get a free one when you both order what you want, drink it, don't drink it, who cares it's freee!

The quality of the cocktails is ok, the strawberry daiquiri made me want to gnaw on the table...so much lime! I also had a cocktail involving apricot jam and heavily spiced rum which was quite good.

All in all it feels as if they are still finding their feet, few rough edges and some staff who perhaps need some more mixology and/or service training. But I am sure I will be back at some point in the future to try the cocktails left on the menu.

      - great happy hour offer for cocktails
      - cool decor and a good atmosphere
      - inexperienced staff
      - didn't try the food, it looked good tho

    • Italien

      Putney, Londres

Authentic Italian in Putney, near the station. Actually very authentic, even down to the old men sitting in the corner and TV playing europop.

The food is good, and reasonably priced. The whole experience, however, I found to be slightly lacking. It could have been the fact the place was empty on a Friday night or maybe the aforementioned europop, I don't know.

Anyway, I think this is a location crying out for a celebrity chef to give them some pointers and maybe a makeover. It should be packed every night...

Certainly one of the best Belgian watering holes we visited. A good selection of beer, including their own rather fruity offerings on tap (try the blanche, it is actually a wit, but no one seems to call them wit's in Brussels?!).

We had a few rounds, and some bar snacks (pieces of cheese and salami), pretty good although perhaps a little pricy.

The only negative was the service on our first visit. It seemed the whole bar was being served by one guy who seemed totally immune to us trying to get his attention to order a drink - at this time our glasses had been empty for all of 15 minutes :-/

Is this a cunning way to keep tourists from getting too sauced on the deceptively strong beer? or is it just legendary Belgian service? Needless to say it didn't put us off coming back.

    • Hôtels

      Centre-Ville, Bruxelles

This is a really modern, relatively minimalist, design hotel. It is not especially expensive for Brussels and is in a great location for the city centre - away from the crowds, but only a few minutes walk away.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a little cup piping hot Belgian chocolate, perfect after getting cold and wet coming from the car park around the corner.

We had dinner in the hotel the first night, very expensive for rather meagre and somewhat mediocre food. No wonder no one else was eating there.

Sunday, they were hosting an event called 'brunch beats', which took over the whole reception, bar and restaurant for the whole day with drunken revellers and very loud euro-dance music (clearly audible throughout the hotel)...at the Dominican, Sunday is not the day of rest. This didn't impact us too much as we were out most of the day, but a little warning would have been nice.

Still for me the positives out way this:
      - great service
      - excellent decor
      - comfortable beds
      - superb showers

      Vs
      - overpriced restaurant
      - limited bar drinks menu
      - Sunday is loud clubbing day

Excellent little independent sandwich shop, with a be-musingly varied menu of sandwiches with amusing names. All of which come on white, brown bread, toasted if you want.

The quality is superb, service is friendly and causal...definitely the place for lunch in Brighton!
